It has been announced that the new anime "The Quintessential Quintuplets *," based on Negi Haruba's popular romantic comedy manga "The Quintessential Quintuplets," will premiere in theaters for a limited three-week run starting September 20th, ahead of its TV broadcast. In this new installment, the original creator, Haruba-san, serves as the original story and full supervisor, and it depicts the "Honeymoon Arc" of Futaro and the quintuplets. Aiming for a "500% cute romantic comedy," a teaser visual featuring the high school quintuplets in different-colored muumuus against the vibrant Hawaiian sea has also been released.
What is "The Quintessential Quintuplets"?
"The Quintessential Quintuplets" is a story about a poor high school student, Futaro Uesugi, who becomes the tutor of five unique quintuplets on the brink of failing, guiding them successfully to graduation. It was serialized in "Weekly Shonen Magazine" (Kodansha) from August 2017 to February 2020, with the cumulative total of the comic series exceeding 20 million copies.
The first season of the TV anime aired from January to March 2019, and the second season, "The Quintessential Quintuplets∫∫," aired from January to March 2021. Additionally, the anime film "The Quintessential Quintuplets Movie" was released in May 2022, achieving box office revenues of approximately 2.24 billion yen and drawing about 1.7 million viewers. Furthermore, in July 2023, "The Quintessential Quintuplets∽," which depicted original episodes not covered in the anime series, was screened in theaters.
Theme Songs
It has also been revealed that Kana Hanazawa, Ayana Taketatsu, Miku Ito, Ayane Sakura, and Inori Minase, who voice the Nakano quintuplets, will sing the opening theme song "Go-Toubun no Egao" and the ending theme song "Memories." The "Go-Toubun no Egao EP" and the best album "TV Anime 'The Quintessential Quintuplets' 5th Anniversary Best Album," featuring the theme songs, will be released on September 18th.
